Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible
again this afternoon across the Eastern Sierra and Northwest
  Arizona.

* By Monday, dry and breezy conditions are expected across the area
along with slightly below normal temperatures.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Saturday.

Lingering moisture will help to fuel isolated showers and
thunderstorms in Mohave County and the Eastern Sierra this
afternoon. In order for precipitation to make it to the surface, it
will have to overcome the dry lower-levels of the atmosphere. Any
convection that does develop this afternoon will dissipate with the
loss of daytime heating after sunset. A low pressure system will
push into the Pacific Northwest on Monday, resulting in dry
southwesterly flow aloft, which will slowly scour moisture out of
the area. While moisture will be pushed off to the east, it will
happen slowly enough that Mohave County will see chances for
isolated showers and thunderstorms each afternoon through the middle
of the week.

As the aforementioned low pressure system pushes into the Pacific
Northwest tomorrow, we will see breezy southerly winds pick up
across southeastern California and southern Nevada on Monday and
Tuesday. These winds combined with the drying trend will result in
elevated, but not quite critical, fire weather concerns each
afternoon. In addition to dry and breezy conditions, the lower 500
mb heights associated with this trough will result in cooler than
normal temperatures across our forecast area. Temperatures will
remain a few degrees cooler than normal through the end of the week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package....Breezy
south-southeasterly winds with 20 to 25 knot gusts will continue
through mid-afternoon, when winds will shift to the south-southwest.
Wind gusts will continue into evening hours before winds begin to
decrease in magnitude through the overnight period. Breezy south-
southeasterly winds will pick back up again around mid-morning
tomorrow. VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period with no
operationally significant cloud cover. Temperatures will exceed 100
degrees between 18 and 03Z, peaking around 104 degrees.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...VFR conditions will
prevail through the TAF period with no operationally significant
cloud cover. Breezy southerly-to-southeasterly winds will continue
across southern Nevada and in the Colorado River Valley through
mid- afternoon when winds will shift to a more southerly-to-
southwesterly direction. Winds in the Owens Valley will maintain
their southeasterly direction through the afternoon and into the
evening hours with 25 to 30 knot wind gusts this afternoon.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the Sierra may
produce erratic gusty winds that could impact the BIH vicinity.
Gusty westerly winds will pick up across the Western Mojave Desert
later this afternoon, continuing into the evening hours.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
